It is important to keep in mind that buildings are typically constructed to have a long lifespan and are a significant financial investment. Therefore, when conducting quality control, it is essential to verify that the materials supplied are appropriate for their intended use and are executed correctly. When we talk about quality control, at least four important aspects should be considered:

Project control: An effective method for detecting and correcting errors that could lead to reduced levels of quality and safety, as well as durability-related deficiencies, pathologies, and other issues.

Material quality control: Through testing and analysis, confidence can be established in the physical and mechanical characteristics of the materials intended for use in the building.

Execution control: Most tests conducted during the construction phase aim to verify that the technical specifications proposed in the project have been met. For example, even if we pass a roller over compacted soil, we cannot be certain that it has been properly compacted.

Installation control: The installation of electrical, heating, air conditioning, communication, and other systems represents a significant portion of the cost of any building project, and their proper functioning will directly impact the owner’s well-being and satisfaction with the building.

Every construction project has its own degree of complexity, and mere inspection and surveillance are often not sufficient. Ideally, we should have quality control laboratories to conduct reviews, tests, and analyses to ensure compliance with
project specifications.
